Important Things You Might Not Be Doing To Your Blog Posts

This week I want to talk about something that I love to natter about.

Website marketing foundations & integrations.

There is a lot I could say on so I’ll create more posts on in in the future. In this post, let’s look at something that likely takes up a huge chunk of space on your website – Your blog.

You might write a post on your blog and add an image to it and think ‘hey, presto, boom, done’ but there are some extra things that you might not have considered when publishing your blog posts:

Headline Tags

H1 tags should only ever be used once on page/post. If there is more than one, search engines get confused and don’t know which one should be used to identify the page/post.

Depending on your website/theme, the title is likely already going to be a H1 tag because it will be built into the layout so you will never need to use a H1 tag when writing up a blog post.

If you don’t know if your website layout is using a H1 tag for the title of a blog post, you can use this handy little tool to find out.

Use H2 tags for sub heading in your blog and if you want to break things down within a subheading use a H3 tag.

Back links

Link back to other blog posts and pages across your website inside your blog posts. Cross promote and tell the search engines that the pages across your website are related. Search engines like this.

They also like when you link out to other websites too so make sure you are doing this in each blog post if you can.

Making the time to SEO your blog posts

I recently overhauled a client’s blog as it was a little scatty because she didn’t know about any of these things so she was missing out on utilising SEO to her advantage. It took a long time to do because she had so many posts, but once it’s done. It’s done.

If you need some help with this, look into finding a VA who can help you clean it up to give your blog posts the best start/restart.

Of course, there is more to SEO than this but knowing these things will go a long way in helping your posts get seen.

Ideas for creating blogs

  • Make sure every blog post has a point to it. Is it packed with value and does it have an end goal? (What is it promoting?)

  • Figure out your blog content pillars (categories) then hook opt-ins up into each one. So, when someone lands on a post that falls into the XYZ category, they see a related opt-in or resource that will help them take whatever the blog is about one step further.

Marketing Ideas For Your Blog Posts

  • Find an old blog post and turn it into a Reel/TikTok.
  • Find an old freebie and write a blog post about the subject and provide a ton of value around it. Don’t forget to link your freebie to your blog post.
  • Turn your old emails into blog posts. (Psst, this post is actually a repurposed email)
  • If you don’t feel like writing, record a video or audio of you talking about the topic you want to blog about and transcribe it. Make sure you create a bit of structure when you are talking so that you blog post doesn’t end up like a puzzle that you need to piece together. This will make turning your video/audio into blog posts so much faster.
