Thoughts on branding courses and gamification

During the week I took off a few weeks ago, I spent the day I had all to myself rebranding my courses and I feel like I am taking more control of my branding overall which I am loving.

I was really inspired by Sidney Eve’s Your Perfect Course Brand Kit that was in the Making it Bloom Bundle back in May. You can check out Sidney’s course-related templates here*. They are just stunning plus she is running a sale at the moment too! Great time for this email 🙌

I also changed the name of one of my courses which was a long time coming. If you have the Quickstart Guide to Being Ready to Build a Website you’ll have an email all about it in your inbox. It’s now called Website Prep Bootcamp.

Going through this process has also made me rethink launching a second membership and review how I could make both concepts work together so if you are a FAB member, big changes are coming which means I can support you in so many more ways. I cannot wait to get everything ready to fly and tell you all about it.

Branding my courses has been quite an experience. I felt so creative and found new ways to improve my courses too. I have a notebook full of things that I want to add but branding them added to the list and gave me even better ideas.

I’m planning to add some gamification. Here’s what I came up with:

  • “Assignments” – Tasks that need to be actioned in order to get XYZ or open up a bonus. I have come up with fancy names for each one too. I won’t be calling these assignments though – I’m still deciding.
  • Badges – One of my clients does this and I love it. This is going to be automated though because as a manual thing, it’s not an easy feat to keep on top of. Possible but a lot of work.
  • Quizzes – I used to have a course platform that included quizzes and I loved it but as I wanted an all in one course and community platform, I lost that feature. I know that Heartbeat are considering gamification at the moment so I hope quizzes will be included in that but if they’re not. I have a solution which I’m excited to integrate into HB.
  • Shared experiences – When they share their progress inside the community, they build up points to unlock additional bonuses. This is something I need to figure out but I love this idea.

I have one course that I am going to gamify the heck out of as it’s such a big course so I’d love to hear about what gamification you have enjoyed during courses you have taken or if you have courses, what has your experience been?
